I hate football. I really, really do. I know that's as horrible as saying 'I hate America', but, that's just how it is for me. However. I love football Sunday. Why? Because it used to mean getting together with my family at my parents house, drinking beer, grazing on the 'football food tray' all day long, and more or less just lounging around. Yes, everyone else present was also there for the football. Good for them.
Long story short, Football Sunday at my parents is no longer. And considering my disdain for football, I was surprised when I realized I missed it. I missed getting to see my family at the very least once a week, I missed the lazy feel of Sunday, I missed mocking the people yelling at the TV and blowing up over bets. I really missed the football food tray.
And then it occured to me that just because we don't have Football Sunday over there anymore, there was no reason why we couldnt have it at my house. So I made a pretty bad-ass football food tray, just like mom and Tom used to make it, threw in a few new traditions of our own (Amy's Cajun Grilled Shrimp Skewers and Miguelito's Homemade Salsa) and dammit, we had one hell of a good Football Sunday. Charley and Lucy hogged all the strawberries - just like they always do - Dad, Luke and Michael actually followed the game, and Charley and I rotated between being in the living room for 'the game' and sneaking to my room to watch iCarly.
I'll tell you a secret - I also joined a betting pool at work for football. I only vaguely understand how it works, but I am told I could win money, so. As long as someone else watches the game to tell me if I won, then I'm all for it.

Football Sunday
This is Dad, in awe of the 'steak tray'. He asked if we could do this every Sunday, LOL. Oh dad. : )
Water crackers (with and without cracked pepper), colby + pepper jack cheese, grilled steak strips, celery, and strawberries. I forgot to take a picture of my badass grilled shrimp.
Michael's ass-on-fire salsa. He didnt make as hot as usual, but it still had everyone's nose running.
Me and my girl and the football food.
Even Lu decided to be part of football Sunday, opting to skip her nap and gobble up all the strawberries. She also insisted on shoving crackers and strawberries down her Uncle Luke's throat, lol.
Buddy thought if he stared long enough, the food would come to him. Or that maybe Lucas would give him some.
She likes to lay on the table to eat. She also likes to not wear clothes around the house now. I think this is Michael's fault.
Lucy ate the salsa. And it burned her, and she cried, and then she went right back for more.
That's my sweet-pea!
Can't wait to do it again next Sunday!

Ha! I, too, hate football, but there are a few occasions when I tolerate it because my besties LOVE it, live for it, and their enthusiasm for it is contagious. Usually my limit is one Frogs game and the Superbowl per year--but I'll admit I love those times. Not because of the football, no (it's still stupid). But because of the company and friendship involved. It's nice to see I'm not the only one.
