Our babydoll is 2 years old today. Two. Years. Old. The Year In Review Pictures are below - waaaay down there, after my emotional 'Mommy' musings. Funny thing happens when you become a mom - suddenly you are more emotional, and more reflective, than you had ever been before. It doesnt go away. My heart still swells at the thought of my child (which, honestly is like 100 times a day). But if you want to skip the ramblings, it won't hurt my feelings.
I'm often told that I have the best stories, or that I have had such an interesting life...and yet, the most beautiful memories of my entire 32 years on this planet have happened in just the last 2. Lucy was born 2 years ago today, at 12:40pm. She weighed 8 pounds on the dot, and was 19 3/4 inches long. She came out with a mess of dark hair that stood up in the cutest faux hawk, and, most memorable to everyone - even the doctor who delivered her - she came out talking. From her first breath of air, she was talking. We have video of her - not even a day old - talking in her sleep. She was welcomed not only by her parents and her sister, but by so many family and friends who were there for her arrival. I have been told that when they took her from the OR to the nursery, it was like she had her own papparazzi trailing behind to get a look. The nurses had to move her cart closer to the window so that that the crowd could see her better. And she was beautiful. So, so beautiful. I still look at her and think, how on earth did she get to be so beautiful? Where does this come from?? I remember when they handed her to me for the first time, how it felt like she had always been there in my arms, had always been mine. It didnt feel like my first time to meet her - it felt like someone had always been missing but now everyone was here.
From the very beginning, I'm talking just months old, this child has had a very distinct personality. She is decisive - she knows what she likes and wants, and trust me - she will find a way to tell you. She is smart - always surprising us with things she knows, things we have not taught her, that she picked up on her own. She counts to 10 and nobody claims having taught her. She knows her colors somehow, knows her animals, her body parts. And the words she can say....seems like every day she learns a dozen more. She's got the gift of gab, for sure. She is stubborn, head-strong, determined and never backs down from something she has set her mind on. Never. She is curious and inquisitive - she would rather take something apart and figure out how it works or how to put it back together, than simply play with it. She is bossy. But she is also a sweetheart - already known for her big hugs and her lover-girl personality. When she is about to be in trouble, her trademark get-out-of-jail move is to throw her arms up and say 'HUG!'. She loves babies more than anything - baby dolls, baby animals, babies at daycare - everyday we have to stop by the nursery and see the babies before we can leave. She is never without a babydoll. She adores her older sister - if Charley does it, Lucy does it. And she is funny. She is silly. Lucy will find a way to make you laugh. She is my firecracker. She is so much of Michael and so much of me and at the same time, she is her own person. Although she doesnt yet understand it, she is and will always be the baby. Our baby.
She loves shoes. And dogs. And swimming. She loves to color but never with crayons - only with pens. She has a hard time slowing down to eat and I think she would live on fruit snacks, pickles and eggs if we let her. She has very eclectic taste in music, that we still havent quite figured out, and that manages to surprise us everytime. One day she will get giddy about Katy Perry - the next she's dancing to Duke Ellington. And her all-time favorite song? It's a tie between Holy Moly's Hardcore Werewolf, and Im Bringing Home A Baby Bumblebee.
She is the love of my life. She is my life. And a million words later, there are still just not enough words to express how much she means to me.
